Time to Brag!

We have been so busy traveling, having company, and getting ready for Christmas that I haven't taken the time to blog! Cleaning my house unfortunately takes precendence over fun internet time. Booooooooo. Seems like I am always cleaning!

Our trip to Disneyworld was a big success. The flights were just ok. He had a little ear pain on the descents. And on one of the flights, he was dying to run around. He made a girlfriend on the last flight and they passed toys back and forth and he got a big hug before we left. He was grinning ear to ear! It prepared us for the next trip coming up, Hawaii! He will have his own seat this time instead of sitting on our laps, so that should make a big difference. And we are bringing Dramamine this time! As far as Disneyworld goes, he had SUCH a good time. He got to meet, kiss, and hug ALL of the characters, including Handy Manny. We went to shows, rode rides, and saw the amazing fireworks displays that they are known for. He is still talking about the fireworks! The Dumbo Ride was definitely the favorite. As soon as we would come down, he would say "RIDE AGAIN!!!" We stayed at the Animal Kingdom resort so we were able to see giraffes and zebras from our balcony! Giraffes are officially his favorite animal. I think we will try to go again maybe when he is 4.

Its now time for me to brag to the world about the sweetest, smartest little boy on earth. He is 19 months old today. He LOVES helping his mama. He helps me put away dishes, clean the table, vacuum, put away toys, throw away his diapers...you name it! He always says HELP MAMA, HELP MAMA! I hope he keeps this up, because I need the help! He is still cuddly as ever, always hugging, kissing, and patting us. 18 months is the height or the start of the terrible twos (depending on who you ask). We have definitely had some challenges lately. More with eating than anything else. He is hating some of the foods he used to love. He still refuses milk of any kind, juice, and fruit. I make it work though. As long as he still eats cheese and yogurt he is getting the calcium and vitamin D he needs. And he eats these things called fruit strips, that we tell him is candy. We are so sneaky. Whatever works! Every now and then he will have a tantrum over the smallest things. I was feeding him something the other day and a drop of it fell on his tray and that turned into the worst tantrum ever. And then the other night, he caught a glance at pudding in the fridge (another last resort of getting the calcium in) and threw a fit because he couldn't have pudding for dinner. But luckily the tantrums aren't often and don't last long. The timeouts still don't work. I think the books that say to wait until they are 2 are right! It usually cuts the tantrum short but in no way teaches him a lesson!

He continues to wow us with his ability to learn. Right now he is learning his shapes, numbers, and letters. I wouldn't have really pushed it this early, but he takes an interest in his puzzles and books that teach this, so we are definitely encouraging it! He knows and can name all the characters from the Mickey Mouse Playhouse (Pluto, Minnie, Goofy, Mickey, Donald, and Daisy) and also all the charactars from Handy Manny! (Manny, Stretch, Squeeze, Rusty, Dusty, Felipe, Turner, Pat, Mrs. Portillo (Portillo), Mr. Lopart (Part), and Kelly. That's pretty amazing because it took me forever to learn all the tools names! He loves his Handy Manny toolbox and is always "fixing" his toys. He will turn over a toy and take either Felipe or Turner (the screwdrivers) and then find the screws and "unscrew" them. He loves to hammer on anything and everything. Sometimes not a good thing.

He speaks in sentences and tells stories. Our favorite is "Daddy Bird (he actually says Burg which is so darn cute), Mommmy Bird, Baby Birds....Gone Home bye bye!" He asked where a bird went one day and I told him it went to be with the mommy and baby birds at home and now he tells us that story all the time. I can't keep track of his vocabulary at this point because he can learn and repeat and remember almost any word that I say. We are probably at 500 at this point. His favorite song is "Santa Claus is coming to town". I sing it so many times a day. As soon as I finish singing he says "Santa Again". It just never gets old to him! I can't wait for him to see what Santa is really all about on Christmas morning!

He still loves his class and we go every Monday, sometimes Wednesdays too. He is getting really good on the balance beam, which he used to avoid all together. He is getting better at climbing. He is a little clingy at the beginning of class now and that goes along with being an 18 month old, but he gets over it pretty fast.

He had a great 18 month checkup and still has a solid immune system. He managed to survive Disneyworld without getting sick and there were sick kids everywhere! I came down with a mean cold. Harrison did the usual and got a high temp one day, a little bit of a sniffly nose and then that was it! When he gets the high temp, its almost always him fighting something off. I am so grateful that this little boy has been so healthy because I can't bear it when he hurts!

He has spent more time with my parents and brother Matt over the holidays. He calls my dad "Papa Hat" because he is the grandpa that always wears the hat. And he calls my mom "Nana". She was going for "Granna", but as most grandparents know, they don't really call the shots. What was going to be Meemers and Poppers ended up being MeeMee and Pop-Pop. And I promise they are ok with that! We are looking forward to spending time with the Pugh Family in Hawaii and will get back to blogging after that!

Merry Christmas!!!!

In Love Again

Wow we have really been busy since the last post! My friend Gyna came to visit with her 16 month old Mia. They stayed for a few days and Harrison had soooo much fun hanging with Mia. He is totally in love. Usually he loves all the girls, but he is actually shy around Mia! So cute. She finally made the first move on him and kissed him right on the lips! We shopped together, went to the park, went for a wagon ride and played nonstop. He could barely sleep one night. He went to sleep saying baby baby hug......Then he woke up in the middle of the night wanting her again. I tried to explain to him that babies sleep at night! He still hasn't fully grasped that concept unfortunately!

He fell off the mats at his tumbles class when I was looking at another kid and hit his head on the window sill. Shame on mommy! I learned my lesson! It was his first real boo-boo I think. He cried for about a minute and demanded a hug and then he was better. It was a nice size cut and swelled up to a bump but was looking better in no time. He is such a tough guy.

He got to visit with his little cousin Blaine at our house on Saturday. He also got to see Pop Pop, MeeMee, Aunt Hayley, and Uncle Logan. He showed off his new trike. We are in the middle of doing some MAJOR baby proofing. What an ordeal. I guess Adam is having to do all the hard work, but just picking everything out was a pain! We now have 5 baby gates and about 30 more drawer locks to put in. Not to mention we have to bolt some bookcases to the wall! I know Adam is dreading it. We also bought a big slide/treehouse for his playroom and that needs to be put together. I will be there for emotional support and to put the "earmuffs" on Harrison when daddy starts cursing!

On Sunday, I went to his great-grandmother Bama's tea party. Harrison was loving the fancy hat and faux fur I was wearing! He was petting me and saying FURRRRRRRR......Some new words include wee-wee, teepee, tower, rocket, orange, pillow, please, penguin, kitten, giraffe, guitar, cupboard, brocolli, and many more! He has been using more little sentences too. He likes to bring books to me and shout "Read it!" and then I give him a look and tell him to say please and he says in the sweetest little voice "PEEEEEEESEE". In the bathtub, he throws these little balls over his head toward the basket and says "I MISSED!" He thinks its hilarious. Unfortunately he also was playing that game with his peas and his sippy cup at the table yesterday! He also told me he loved me. He repeated I Love You after I said it. Such a wonderful moment for a mommy! He is waking up from a nap now. Duty Calls!!!

Baby with Cow

Such a busy weekend we had! Friday night, we had a birthday party to go to at Hudson's on the Bend. I have never been even though its so close to our house! Its a nicer restaurant so I was a little (a lot) nervous about bringing Harrison. He is always so good at restaurants but I get nervous every time. The dinner was outside and it was beautiful weather. But Harrison wanted to run around most of the time so we took turns chasing him. He was being shy for most of the night but when Ryan (the birthday boy - well, man - he is 30!) asked him if he wanted to go look at leaves, he went right to him! Wasn't shy at all! So I ran back to the table and finished by steak and it was very very good! They came back and Harrison was proudly carrying a branch with leaves on it. We will have to go back there soon.

I left Saturday before lunch to go to Dallas. I am a bridesmaid in a friends wedding and the bachelorette party was Saturday. I have been nervous about this a long time! Not sure how I was going to do, not sure how he was going to do! Our strategy was to have Meemee and Pop Pop spend some time with him. He is always so happy with them and they also wear him out! Also, Adam explained to him that Mommy had to go somewhere but would be back tomorrow and he was totally cool with it! When I woke him up from his morning nap on Sunday when I got home, I was expected a big hug! But he just demanded his cup. Oh well! Its good to know he can survive without his mama every now and then.

It was such a perfect day on Sunday. We took him to the playground and he had a blast playing with a 4 year old. Then we took him to a pumpkin patch and he picked out his pumpkin. He is kind of obsessed with pumpkins right now. He can say "pumpkin" too which makes it all the more adorable. I stopped writing down his words for several days because I couldn't keep up. Now I am trying to catch up. We are close to 300. Whew! I am hearing more 3 and 4 word sentences and phrases. And he is really starting to put things together. He looked at his box of wet wipes yesterday and said "Wipe....Poop....Pee!". And he looked at his picture of him on the Longhorn and said "Baby with Cow". Already counting down the days to Disneyworld! Of course he isn't excited but mommy and daddy are!!!

Chatty Harrison

We had a wonderful weekend at Horseshoe Bay, even though it rained quite a bit! We ate some good food, played putt putt on one of the country's best courses, and Harrison saw so many fountains and waterfalls, he didn't know what to do with himself! When we were in the lobby, he met a cute little 3 year old girl. He started chasing her around and was having the best time. Then she came right up to him and gave him a big smooch on the lips! He was so in love and cried for the "baby" when she left. He hugged another 3 year old girl later. On Sunday, we went to Mim's (one of his 3 great-grandmothers) 86th birthday party. He had a blast seeing that whole side of the family. He especially loved his second cousin Mikenna. He gave her so many hugs!!! He has the sweetest personality. So loving. He learns it at home, because we cover him with hugs and kisses!

Harrison and I had our first real conversation the other day. I got him up from his nap and asked him if he wanted beans for lunch. (When I ask him what he wants for lunch, he usually says beans or ham). But this time he shook his head "no". So I said "well what do you want for lunch then?". He thought about it and said "I want......(long pause)...BABA! (His nickname for bread). I said "You want baba???". and he said "I do" and nodded. Maybe you had to be there to appreciate this. But its pretty mind blowing the first time you have a meaningful exchange with your baby!!!

This weekend, Adam and Harrison were in the hotel room while I was getting a massage. Adam went into the bathroom and Harrison was in the playpen and wanted Adam's attention. He said "Dada"....."Dada"....."ADAM!!!!". Haha, that definitely got his attention!!

This morning, we walked into the breakfast room and saw Oscar. I told Harrison to say good morning to the cat. He repeated me exactly "Good morning Cat". Just as casual as can be. Cracks me up!

He has been learning words so fast, I can barely keep up. But I have been keeping a list. This might be too boring for some. But some of his words are rather funny!
